Eligibility Information and Competition Guidelines
General Requirements
Royalty applicants must be a SRSC member in good standing for one year prior to competition. If you have already been Princess/Prince (previously known as Jr. Princess/Prince) or Jr. Princess/Princess (previously known as Jr. Royalty) once, you are not eligible to run for the same position.
Eligibility Requirements
Queen/King Rules: Applicant must be 18 years old as of January 1, 2025. All applicants are required to wear a long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat during all phases of the competition unless otherwise specified. If you would like to compete for Queen or King, please fill out the application (link found above) and email it to scandiariders@gmail.com by Thursday, May 31st, 2024.
Princess/Prince Rules: Applicant must be 13-17 years old as of January 1, 2025. All applicants are required to wear a long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat during all phases of the competition unless otherwise specified. If you would like to compete for Princess or Prince, please fill out the application (link found above) and email it to scandiariders@gmail.com by Thursday, May 31st, 2024.
Jr. Princess/Prince Rules: Applicant must be 12 years old or under as of January 1, 2025. All applicants are required to wear a long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat during all phases of the competition unless otherwise specified. If you would like to compete for Jr. Princess/Prince, please fill out the application (link found above) and email it to scandiariders@gmail.com by Thursday, May 31st, 2024.
Competition Requirements
Test and Interview
When: Thursday, June 6th, 2024 - 7:30 pm
Where: Scandia Community Center
Dress: Long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat
Description: You will be introduced at the beginning of the general meeting and then begin your written test, which will be 10 questions on general horse knowledge. You will then be called individually for your interview. The interview panel consists of 3-4 club members. The interview itself is approximately 4 questions.
Riding Competition
When: Sunday, June 9th, 2024 - 8:30 am
Where: Scandia Riders Saddle Club Arena - during the SRSC Closed Combo Show
Dress: Long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat
Description: The riding competition is held during the club’s Closed Combo Show. You are required to compete in the following classes designated on the show bill for Royalty Only: Showmanship, Western Horsemanship and Barrels. The only exception is Jr. Princess/Prince applicants do not compete in the barrel class. You will fill out one entry card for each class, however you will not be charged for these classes. No results of the classes will be announced nor will ribbons be offered. In addition to your long-sleeved collared western shirt, western hat and blue jeans you must wear the proper accessories for all classes including belt and boots - no chaps are allowed for western horsemanship.
Reading of your Essay
When: Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 - 7:30 pm
Where: Scandia Community Center
Dress: Long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat
Description: You will write an essay and read it for the club members during the monthly general membership meeting. Your essay should be no longer than 5 minutes and should describe yourself, your horse background and why you are interested in becoming SRSC Royalty. Club members will vote on the candidates after all essays have been read. The results of the voting will not be announced.
Volunteer Points
When: Between May 31, 2024 and October 31, 2024
Where: Any Club activity or function
Dress: As appropriate for volunteer activities - please look your best
Description: Volunteer Points are entirely optional however they are an easy way to get extra points for the royalty competition. Competitors must keep track of their own volunteer hours and turn them into the royalty committee chairperson or email them to scandiariders@gmail.com by Thursday, November 7th, 2024 (at the general membership meeting) 1 hour of service = 1 point for both Princess/Prince and Jr. Princess/Prince and ½ point for the Queen/King Competition
Coronation
When: Saturday, January 18th, 2025 – SRSC Annual Banquet
Where: Scandia Community Center
Dress: Long-sleeved collared western shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a western hat
